History
In the 1980's I started my first
sculptures. Initially they were in wax and I experimented by working on various
models of people and objects, and the different breeds of dogs. For quite some time, they were all made as presents and I would make them for friends. Sculptures nowadays are still made as presents - ordered very often as a surprise for owners of much loved dogs, or to commemorate occasions such as prizes in competitions.
When
I first started working with clay and porcelain I realised the possibilities for my pottery were
endless and I began practicing by sculpting true life models of my own dogs, cats and ponies. Though the bulk of my work was, and still is, mostly models of dogs.
Even in those days, as an artist I liked to retain indivuality in my sculptures and
carefully hand crafted my pottery to keep them as near to a true likeness of
any dog I modelled, unless it was a caricature and then I could have some fun in a different way!
Though sometimes finished models might
appear to be similar, no two sculptures are ever the same because I use
no moulds and every model is hand sculpted and hand painted.
